Alison Knezevich reports that the partisan attempt to bring avoid the committee consideration of the so-called "Marriage Protection Amendment" failed.  This amendment would not have just banned marriage equality, it would have prevented civil unions.  Her Gazette article is here. A front page article in the State Journal by Gretchen Stone makes the business case for the Employment Non-Discrimination Bill, SB 238.   Back in February, the CEO of West Virginia Media, the State Journal's parent company, wrote an editorial making it clear that the marriage amendment was "political horse rubbish that takes our attention away from making West Virginia the absolute best it can be. "

The Employment & Housing Non-Discrimination Act (EHNDA), Senate Bill 238, made its way over to the House, where it was referred to the Judiciary Committee. 

Jeff Moats makes the case that "Homosexuality causes no harm to anyone else so there is no reason that gay and lesbian citizens should not be afforded the same rights as everyone else in our society."
