Native West Virginian Bradley Milam has been hired as Fairness West Virginia’s first full-time staff member. In his role as Executive Director, Bradley manages day-to-day operations for Fairness, provides support for the Board of Directors, plans and executes special events, and is responsible for expanding the organization’s activist and fundraising base.
Bradley was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and grew up in nearby Fairdale. After graduating as valedictorian from Liberty (Raleigh) High School in 2006, he attended Yale University and graduated with a B.A. in history in 2010. His senior essay, “Gay West Virginia: Community Formation and the Forging of a Gay Appalachian Identity, 1963-1979,” won the Yale Gay and Lesbian Alumni (GALA) LGBT Studies Department Senior Essay Prize and was awarded honorable mention for the Joan Nestle Prize through the American Historical Association’s Committee on LGBT History. Before moving back to West Virginia to work for Fairness, Bradley was a paralegal at a criminal defense law firm in New York City and volunteered as a rape crisis counselor with the New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. He is thrilled to be returning to his home state and taking on a key role in Fairness’s growth.
Bradley works out of Fairness’s Charleston office.

Trellis Smith

Trellis is a native of New Orleans and Creative Director/Owner of EC, a design studio and event production firm in Morgantown. In addition to being an entrepreneur, Trellis is a published food and lifestyle writer. In the past, he has served on the Human Rights Campaign New Orleans Steering Committee. Currently, he is the coordinator for the Morgantown chapter of G2H2 (Gay Guys Happy Hour), a monthly social networking group.
Trellis is responsible for fundraising for the organization through special events and donor cultivation, as well as much of the organization’s communications through social media, blogging, website management, and other methods.
Trellis works in Morgantown, where he resides with his partner and their two adopted sons.
