Fairness WV Praises Sen. Rockefeller, Condemns Sen. Manchin on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Vote.

Charleston, WV—Fairness WV, the state’s leading LGBT rights organization, both praised and condemned the votes of the state’s two U.S. Senators on today’s motion to begin debate on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

“We are thankful for Sen. Rockefeller’s thoughtful and important vote to repeal the unnecessary and discriminatory vote Don’t Ask, Don’t tell law,” said Stephen Skinner,” president of Fairness WV. “It’s time for this policy to end, and it’s time for this to end now.”

“It is unconscionable that Sen. Joe Manchin would vote against the Secretary of Defense, military families, a wide majority of the American people, and the late Sen. Robert Byrd in opposing the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” said Stephen Skinner, president of Fairness WV.

Pepe Johnson, a Fairness WV board member and former U.S. Army Sergeant discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, is also available for comment.
