Our Work

Ending Discrimination

In West Virginia, LGBTQ+ people still live without full legal protection. A person can be fired, denied housing, or turned away from a business simply because of who they are. That reality shapes lives across the state.

We continue to push for a statewide law that adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the West Virginia Human Rights Act. We advocate for clear protections in employment, housing, and public spaces. Through the Fairness Act, we are working to put fairness into state law where it belongs.

While we push for change at the state level, we are also helping communities take action close to home.

More than twenty cities and towns have passed local fairness ordinances with our support. These policies protect LGBTQ+ residents from discrimination and show what is possible when people come together to do what is right.

This work is growing. West Virginians are organizing, telling their stories, and meeting with lawmakers. We are committed to this fight until LGBTQ+ people are fully protected in every part of the state.

Trans Equality

We stand with the trans community. Every policy we support includes clear protections for transgender people. That includes local and statewide efforts focused on housing, employment, and public accommodations.

Policy is one part of the work. Education is the other. Many West Virginians still don’t know what it means to be transgender, and misunderstanding leaves people vulnerable. We believe in showing up with facts, compassion, and conversation—not just to pass laws, but to make everyday life safer and more respectful for trans people across the state.

Public Education

We lead conversations that change hearts and minds. Through programs like our Faces of Fairness Film Tour and local trainings, we bring LGBTQ+ stories into community spaces across the state. We believe that when people understand each other, they are more willing to stand together.

Protecting Families

We work to defend and strengthen the rights of LGBTQ+ families in the Mountain State. That means fighting to protect marriage equality, blocking harmful legislation, and advancing policies that honor love, responsibility, and care. Every family deserves to be treated with respect. We are here to make sure the law reflects that.
